I-12: Objective Embryo Assessment Utility of Time-Lapse
author
Abstract:
Background Traditionally, embryo incubation and assessment daily has been under a light microscope, these observations are inevitably restricted to specific times and considering that the development of the embryo is a dynamic process, several critical stages in between observations may go unnoticed. For this reason, the new technologies, time lapse monitoring, have focused on the research for additional markers of viability to supplement current criteria for embryo selection and thus, achieve a reduction in the number of embryos transferred and so multiple pregnancies, making the selection procedure even easier for the embryologist. However, for wide adoption of time-lapse technology in IVF practice, there are two key considerations. First, validation of the time-lapse technology is needed to demonstrate its safety and effectiveness by prospectively designed clinical trials in a multiple-clinic setting . Second, time-lapse technology must be compatible with the busy workflow of any standard IVF laboratory and practical-to-use for any embryologist. MaterialsAndMethods N;Results N;Conclusion N;

I-9: Embryo Assessment and Selection
Over the years it has been an important goal to optimize the treatment of subfertility in order to obtain a better pregnancy rate and baby-take-home rate, usually combined with the goal of decreasing the rate of multiplet pregnancies. This implies optimizing the development of embryos through improved in vitro culture methods. And it also implies optimizing the methods of selection of embryos f...
full textTime Lapse of Frog Embryo Development from MRI Data
Many imaging techniques (MRI, CT) map values from threedimensional space. Such data is often easier to analyze using volume graphics, which allows for the visualization of a three-dimensional grid of data values. Such models can give a more intuitive sense of structures and their locations. Using methods such as this to show changes over time, one can gain a clear visual model of complex biolog...
full textEmbryo selection: the role of time-lapse monitoring
In vitro fertilization has been available for over 3 decades. Its use is becoming more widespread worldwide, and in the developed world, up to 5% of children have been born following IVF. It is estimated that over 5 million children have been conceived in vitro. In addition to giving hope to infertile couples to have their own family, in vitro fertilization has also introduced risks as well. Th...
full textInter-laboratory agreement on embryo classification and clinical decision: Conventional morphological assessment vs. time lapse
The aim of this study is to determine inter-laboratory variability on embryo assessment using time-lapse platform and conventional morphological assessment. This study compares the data obtained from a pilot study of external quality control (EQC) of time lapse, performed in 2014, with the classical EQC of the Spanish Society for the Study of Reproductive Biology (ASEBIR) performed in 2013 and ...
full textTime-lapse cleavage rating predicts human embryo viability.
Chronology of three consecutive mitotic events in human pre-implantation embryos was examined by time-lapse imaging. In zygotes producing well-formed and pregnancy-yielding expanded blastocysts, uniform time-patterning of cleavage clusters (c) and interphases (i) was revealed: i2=11+/-1, i3=15+/-1, i4=23+/-1 h / c2=15+/-5, c3=40+/-10, c4=55+/-15 min. Oppositely, shortened or prolonged durations...
full textAssessment of Time-Lapse in Visible and Thermal Face Recognition
Although face recognition seems as an easy task for human, automatic face recognition is a much more challenging task due to variations in time, illumination and pose. In this paper, the influence of time-lapse on visible and thermal images is examined. Orthogonal moment invariants are used as a feature extractor to analyze the effect of time-lapse on thermal and visible images and the results ...
